ALL IN ONE'S LIFETIME.
Following a period of violence by students, information of our cascading down the international education performance league, along with the endless examples of disrespect shown to our teachers by some of their pupils, can we honestly be proud of our education system?
As a child starting school in 1940, there was no chance of back-chatting, let alone swearing at a teacher. Not only would the child be punished by the school, but also by their parents. This very point is undoubtedly the secret, discipline; the lack of which must be associated with the overall problems of many wayward youngsters.
When watching TV, particularly at this time of year, we are assaulted by adverts for all kinds of electronic paraphernalia, much of which depicts violence. These, to teenagers in particular, appear to be essentials of life. No wonder, therefore, we have a giant problem. Instead of mind enhancing, they are, in many cases, mind bending. A lot of the students causing mayhem recently, at great cost to the country's finances, will spend much time with these so-called audio games, whilst some will also be taking illegal drugs. How can the state expect the rest of us to subscribe to aimless folk?
The subject of international standings in important areas such as the three R's, the Sciences and
Languages, have almost become irrelevances. Just as long as we can keep this lot off the unemployed list.
BY GOVE! WE HAVE MUCH WORK TO DO.
