IT'S MORE THAN A QUESTION OF DEGREE.

It's always refreshing when an academic puts a head over the parapet, to disclose the nonsense within. The weekend's press produced such a character, in the shape of Professor Alan Smithers, Director of the Centre for Education and Employment Research at the University of Buckingham.

Prof. Smithers questions the ridiculous pursuit of nonsensical degrees i.e. Stained glass windows or International Football Team Management. What on earth are we doing even contemplating such wastage of time from a nation that is so much in debt, due to deplorable economic management. We have to sit through the National news during August, listening to school leavers telling us whether or not they have made the grade for the Uni' of their choice, the abbreviation immediately explains to us that they treat life as little more than a soap opera. In many cases, the only thing that they will achieve is a large debt, with few prospects at the end of it.

The article discloses some basic facts that we need to absorb; Switzerland, with a far better GDP than the UK, has fewer graduates. Poland conversely, with a weaker economy than ours, has more graduates than Britain. There is little doubt that we go through this charade about this time of year, pretending that we are very clever, when the opposite is nearer the mark.

The way out of this dilemma is to get rid of the notion that a university degree is a stipulation to gain employment. All one really needs is common sense. The current arrangement does no more than keep the unemployment figure down.

WHAT A SHOCKING WASTE OF MONEY.

A CLOSET TOO FAR.

I will accept that we should have a cross section of society representing us in Parliament, something, however, tells me, that what was once a steady creep, is developing into a veritable sprint. Homosexuality we know is out there, but is it really in the Electorate generally, on the scale that has manifested itself in Westminster. We cannot operate as a cohesive unit if we pander to minority groups. It can only end in tears.

To follow in the trendy steps of liberal thinking will only deliver us into the messy wastelands of decadence, a path which probably saw the collapse of the Roman Empire.

The subject, the writer is aware, can create a certain amount of ire, and quite rightly so. Only this week we have witnessed the strange death of MI6 agent and boffin, Gareth Williams. These situations generate so much conjecture, immediately we get suggestions that this may be a case of a sexual killing. Obviously, this could be offered as a ruse of course. Although this death, on the face of it, is not an Alan Turing moment.

CAT LITTER.

Into which coloured bin do we deposit cats? No matter how distasteful it is to see cats being dumped into a wheelie bin, I'm sure that many local authorities would love to employ an army of specialist refuse managers to consider how to cope with the problem, should the habit become endemic. A colour for the necessary bin doesn't come readily to mind; somehow a name would seem to be more appropriate, either a Tom or a Sylvester. We could probably expect a TV channel to create a phone-in competition for a final decision. There must be endless ways for such a retarded nation to amuse itself. I assume that we await umpteen directives from Brussels on the subject.

Everything about the act and the response rings a note of disgust, from all aspects.

THE PENALTY: GIVE HER THE CAT.

FORGET ABOUT HOSTING THE WORLD CUP.

The thought of running the Football World Cup in 2018 is such a ludicrous idea, that only a bunch of dimwits would consider such a prospect. It would almost certainly drain more lottery cash away from the worthwhile causes for which it was intended, community sporting and meeting facilities. All such projects were put on the back burner, as 2012 has absorbed so much cash.

The mention of an international footballing festival should make the nation cringe with embarrassment. We carry on as though we are living through boom times. The fact is, that as a nation we are bust. The possibility of rampant inflation is just around the corner. The introduction of the quantitative easing, £200 billion worth, has yet to hit the fan, and it won't be pretty.

It is such a pity that we don't have a government pointing out that we can't contemplate such a notion. Chasing the debt, to appease the natives, is not a way to work ourselves out of this unholy mess, bequeathed to us by Gordon Brown.

WHERE SHOULD WE INVEST OUR SAVINGS?

Following advice from a building society, as an investment approaches fruition, most of which are over a short term, they recommended another short term investment, with a gross return of 3%, worded as if this is only just short of being bequeathed the Crown Jewels. If I did not make a move, they would just shunt the terminating investment into a siding to earn 0.05%; presumably the next option would be to have a hit team around to break legs. I did, however, decide to go for a four year untouchable account at 4.25%.

Such decisions, nevertheless, are difficult to make, when confronted with items in the press that suggest that interest rates could rocket to 8% within two years. This prediction is by the Policy Exchange think tank, in anticipation of accelerating inflation, which will force the Bank of England to make such a move. This figure should make the average saver salivate at the thought; unfortunately it would create total mayhem for mortgage holders, with disastrous consequences. Can this situation be avoided? We can only hope so, without the usual fudge which nudges it further down the track, compounding the problem.

So what does one do? Difficult, but on this occasion I went for the four year investment.

RESPONSIBLE SINGLE PARENTS.

It is refreshing to speak to two single parent mums, who prefer to earn their living rather than leeching from the state. The occasion was at a hospital appointment this a.m, both said mums are nurses and good, considerate professionals; vocational would describe them aptly. One of them explained to me, that along with her seven year old child, on benefits she would be £700 a month better off. If this is not a frightening thought to the reader, it should be.

Both, interestingly, support the current coalition's considerations regarding the streamlining of the benefits system. One of them even quoted her mother, who had pointed out, that every Labour regime leaves us in economic turmoil, a fact well known to every political thinker.

To pay disability benefits to drug addicts and alcoholics is an absolute disgrace; most of our intensive care units are clogged with both. The argument for keeping the benefits in place is mostly based on the suggestion that there would be a dramatic increase in the number of muggings. We could then revert to a little jurisdiction, based upon public opinion. The country will remain uneasy with itself until we make that move.

WELL DONE GIRLS!

SEND IN THE CLONES.

We're sorry, they're here. As we all could have predicted, cloned animals have entered the food chain. What we don't know, is, will this have a detrimental effect on the human race?

Playing with nature could have catastrophic consequences. Only time will tell. The real question is, the reason for all this additional requirement for food. Over population will no doubt be the box to tick. So we continue to encourage people to multiply, in the case of the UK, on a limited plot of land, by sponsoring the parents to breed willy-nilly, for which they receive remuneration against each child born. Logic suggests that we start by putting such cash incentives aside after two offsprings. Eventually, we could go the whole way and rid ourselves of the burden on taxpayerGB. The concerns of the forties/fifties are long gone; adults should now be responsible for controlling their own family size, subject to what they can afford, not what the disciplined sector of our society can subsidize.

We hope that such a simple exercise would polarize people's minds into becoming concerned with regard to the size of their families.

One of the arguments on behalf of cloning appears to be, that the quality of meat can be improved, having found the ultimate beast. The answer, however, only shows up when sampling the meat from a slaughtered carcass. Evidently, the necessary cells are retained for the continued multiplication of one that passes the taste and quality test.

THE FOLLY OF PREDICTIONS.

The disastrous events which overtake the Globe at regular intervals never appear to put politicians off predicting how the economy and inflation will be performing in the forthcoming few years. Should that view be a rosy one, then the nation and the population switch into 'big time' borrowing mode; always disregarding the news that is all around us. Currently, we are witnessing the tragedy that is the massive flooding in Pakistan, and the more conducive problem of the drought in Russia, which could be a catastrophe for world wheat supplies.

In the case of the floods, we can of course donate to a relief fund; the shortage of food, however, is a problem which can effect a large percentage of the world. With some foresight and good planning, we can help our own cause. It is time to reclaim acres of former 'greenbelt', committing ourselves to greater independence. Something that we must consider, to ensure the future of the nation, self sufficiency wherever possible.

There will naturally be many 'Greens' out there, beating their chests and chanting their usual mantras, about climate change etc., If it is about man made abuse, we then need to reduce the population. On the other hand, if it's not man made, bearing in mind that we are talking about floods, that we are informed are the worst in eighty years, then what was the cause?

IT'S IMPORTANT TO THINK AHEAD.

Purely by chance, on Monday evening, having tuned to Channel 4 to see what they have to say on a new series re: looking at the drug situation, I caught the tail end of the nightly '4thought.tv'. The subject was something referred to in these postings in the past, the obsession with homosexuality, and the problems that it will bestow upon the nation. In principal, the presenter outlined the simple facts, such as the insistence on getting quotas into Parliament. What are we thinking about, ensuring that we have a higher percentage of diverse sexual MPs, than there is out there in the electorate? In addition, he went on to point out, that the Muslim community, which has no truck with such practices, within approximately a generation will have outnumbered the native Brits. Who are these buffoons who impose this outrageous philosophy upon us, against many a will.

The programme on drug abuse turned out to be an advert for the drugs business; never failing to mention alcohol and smoking in the same breath as hard drugs.

ON BOTH COUNTS, WHAT WILL ROBIN DO THEN POOR THING?
