A SUMMIT A DAY KEEPS THE REAL CONCERNS AWAY.
In the past week, Prime Minister Cameron has appeared at a number of summit conferences, from subjects as diverse as the Eurozone's problematic Mediterranean fringe states, whose economies operate at a different pace from that of Germany. Much of this is, as we know, self- imposed. Nevertheless, the last thing this particular Brit needs, is our Prime Minister showing interest by offering our financial support; we had too much of such stupidity with the last lot. Another major problem, the situation in Somalia; apart from having plenty of that country's people living here, many at our expense, we have to stop offering more cash, which has to be borrowed before being given. We cannot keep living the farcical socialist dream of living beyond our means. One can easily assume that our involvement in all these international considerations helps us to ignore pressing situations at home.
The writer, along with a number of the clearer thinkers of the press, has been disturbed by the ongoing increase in the number of abortions, many for lifestyle purposes; not least, from the Asian perspective, the inconvenience of a girl. Readers may remember the feelings in these blogs, whereby we consider the taking of life to be murder, unless at least two qualified doctors agree that the foetus is not going to enjoy a wholesome life. Although this is marginal, a mature society has to make certain decisions based upon reasonable results of the necessary tests; furthermore, cost is a major factor. The other important domestic subject this week is the Prime Minister's agreement in allowing same sex couples to enjoy similar marital rights to those of heterosexual couples. Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Carey, has been pointing out the error of such a move; we don't even have to discuss the subject, just consider nature for the answer.
