HIDDEN EXPENDITURE.

Occasionally an item is revealed in letters to the press which is so important, something that would never appear in the six o'clock news or be asked as a question on Question Time. When the Humber Bridge was completed around 1980, the cost of construction, £90 million, was to be paid off with the toll charges. Over subsequent years the debt increased, although written off in the 1990's, that figure is now around £360 million.

NEVER TRUST THE EXCHEQUER WITH SIMPLE ARITHMETIC.
