SHOULD I BOTHER TODAY?

As a young man learning about the timber trade, I was fortunate to have as a colleague, a Liverpudlian, who, on leaving the services at the end of WWII, returned to his chosen career. He was one of the best timber men I knew, working with the timber licensing and timber control, which was instituted for some years following the cessation of hostilities. During that time, the staff annually had to complete paper work regarding the performance of a colleague. He set about this with gusto, pointing out that his subject took all his allotted sick leave, some thirteen weeks. This kind of critique was naturally frowned upon and he was admonished, being advised that this was not the kind of information that the authorities were looking for.

Well, from what I read in the press, that culture is still alive and kicking.
