"ALL CHANGE"
Well, he's finally arrived at the White House! Which has given a new, albiet pointless impetus to the likes of Brown, to rub shoulders with Barack Obama, giving the impression that he is some kind of novelty. This is patronising at it's worst. Yes! some things will change, they change all the time. What can the new President do? Will he, as did Roosevelt, employ vast numbers on large construction projects? These will have to be self -funding ultimately, no window dressing, as would be Brown's approach, playing to the gallery. We can pretend and throw money at the problem indefinitely. In the final reckoning, however it is the people who make the difference or circumstances. With Roosevelt it was WWII.
On the subect of change, Andrew Alexander, who writes an excellent column in the 'Mail' every Friday, reminds us of a moment from the novel 'The Leopard'. The Prince's nephew enlists in Garibaldi's rebel army to further his conservative beliefs. Explaining, that if we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change.
WE SHALL SEE, BUT DON'T BE IN A HURRY.
