REFLECTING SOCIETY.
Following the failure of the recent Anglican Church Synod's decision to appoint women Bishops, the outgoing Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, expressed his exasperation at the gathering not being in tune with modern society. Well, thank heaven for that. Modern society, which appears to operate with a mobile phone permanently fixed to one ear, a bottle of water in the other hand, and a 'subway' or similar under the arm. Apparently, when at home, they subside into a world of TV dross and ridiculous video games. Weekends are probably all consumed by a bigoted view of support for their favourite football team. An out of control 'so called' sport, which reflects more the state of modern living than any other aspect. The participants receiving hideous amounts of income for an effort, which, for most folk at work, would warrant the sack.
No Archbishop, please do not try to emulate the current trends of the public, but encourage the church to point out the stupidity of the 'epicurean society'. After all, once women attain the possibility of becoming bishops, they will then covet the position from which you are about to retire.
Peter Hitchens, in this weekend's press, who, like myself, is not wholly opposed to women progressing within the church, writes that these same zealots never seem to be supporting women to be refuse collectors, or men to be dinner ladies.
TRADITIONALISTS, HOWEVER, DESERVE THEIR SAY, IT'S DEMOCRACY.
