A NOT SO MIGHTY FINE.

Following the British Broadcasting Corporation's deplorably incorrect slur on Lord McAlpine, depicting him  as a paedophile. It would appear that the two parties have now settled out of court, a figure of £185,000. Conversely, it would appear that ITV (Independent Television), for the same offence, could face a heavier fine, due to the fact that they are a private business.

Should this turn out to be the case, how are such things justified? The BBC had been running the suggestion of political intrigue, by dangling the bait for a number of days, that a former Tory leading light was about to be named as the paedophile in question. It was almost of 'soap opera' proportions. 'Tune in tomorrow'. Surely, as recommended in earlier postings, the fine should be moderate, due to the fact that ultimately it is picked up by the licence payer. Perhaps we can go much further however, by reducing, by a number of percentage points, the actual licence fee. This would automatically polarise the minds of the Corporation, and would reduce the endless number of managers, whose placements are solely to peddle 'left wing bile'. We could make a start by trimming the 'dummos', presumably fresh out of university, who write the news. The endless usage of the words 'focus/issue/stuff etc., the intelligent section of society can well do without. Plus the cancelling of the ridiculous Radio 1, with its 'pop' music; all of which is more than duplicated on umpteen other radio stations.

LET'S NOT IGNORE THIS GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY.
