SO YOU THINK YOU'RE CURED.

Much is currently being talked about regarding the ineffectiveness of antibiotics. There is nothing new here about the possibility of medicines in general losing their properties to fight disease; there has been a cause for concern for some decades. It is also possible that their over use, particularly by being overly prescribed, has given rise to even worse diseases.

The late William Donald Hamilton, a biologist with very strong views on opposing what he saw as nature's wishes, which we assume is our birthright, to extend our time here on earth for longer than nature intended. Hamilton's theories could well have been an extension of the thoughts of the German Ernst Haeckel; some of whose theories were adopted by Hitler.

Nevertheless, medicine upon demand, which Governments love to portray as free, in the wonderful British Welfare State, could well be showing signs of 'backfiring'. We have written previously in these columns about taking on the greatest force in the world.
