It may not be clear to readers from other shores, but Britain has been going through a period of 'navel gazing' into illegal phone hacking. This activity was undoubtedly reprehensible and serious action had to be taken. The main perpetrators performing this activity were reporters, now facing criminal charges, from the Murdoch newspaper, The News of the World, which was subsequently closed down.

The enquiry into this deceitful practise encouraged the victims to give evidence, and much of the goings on was reporting from 'the gutter'. A particularly distasteful example involved the hacking of a missing schoolgirl's mobile; plus numerous other attempts to pry into people's privacy. Many of the latter are celebrities, and they deserve protection along with the rest of us. They do, nevertheless, spend much time and energy endeavouring to attract their followers' attentions. During the hearing, they were 'hamming it up' with considerable gusto. The result, to many, I'm sure, was a total pantomime.

The hearings were performed under the auspices of Lord Justice Leveson, whose 2000 page report includes a recommendation for government legislation to control the press. Well, one can imagine all the celebrity victims are trying to 'whip up a storm' for this to take place, operating under the banner 'Hacked Off'. Naturally the 'Pinkoes' (Labour Party) would love this, controlling their misdemeanours, which would be forbidden from coverage in the press. That disgraceful 'slimeball' 'Thoroughly Modern' Miliband, just loves the thought of this; consistent with all far left regimes. In addition, some of M'lud's advisers had warned him that such an act would be in contravention of the Human Rights Act.
