NO MAN IS GOOD ENOUGH TO GOVERN ANOTHER MAN WITHOUT THE OTHER'S CONSENT. (Abraham Lincoln)

This is obviously a succinct view of democracy. Something which is far from the understanding of the majority of the current crop of our parliamentarians of all parties.

I shall keep returning to a recommendation of overlooking party politics for the sake of our democracy. Collectively, we must return to the will of the majority. e.g. The most glaring case is the recent vote in parliament on the thinly disguised Lisbon treaty (EU constitution). This is not about my feelings on the matter, but how major legislation can be expedited through the chamber without explaining line by line what it entails. Hitherto I might have gone along with the practice of relying on the judgement of my MP, who filed through the lobby with the government, although he is my conservative member of parliament, therefore acting without "the other's consent", or at least the confirmation of a majority. This was passed in the face of a promised referendum. WHEN DO WE GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE FOR THE LEGISLATORS IN BRUSSELS?

This is not trivia but devastating to the democratic process. An MP must act upon the will of the people, if not they will find, I'm sure and very soon, a backlash from the taxpayer. Westminster is not a club or a gravy train. The member, one of the public, is given the opportunity by his/her constituents to represent the majority view, to save as much of their hard earned money as they can under the very close scrutiny of their constituents. In addition, let us consider the MP being paid by their constituency, a figure arrived at by the people he/she represents, expenses need also to be vetted by the same authority. The account would then be included in the Council Tax bill keeping the over burdened taxpayer informed. WE CAN DO IT!

Please allow a little time to considering why parliament grows in size just to rubber stamp EU legislation, when the private sector shrinks due to IT. We have, therefore, got to reduce the numbers at Westminster dramatically. (KEEP PAYING YOUR TAXES!)
