PHILIPPINES: POST TYPHOON.

I do hope that the over-cossetted 'West' is taking note of the video film coming our of the Philippines; what a magnificent attitude is being shown by the victims of this horrendous disaster. I'm sure that if such an event ever happened on that magnitude in the United Kingdom, all that we would hear would be demands about what the Government is doing under the circumstances.

These resilient people seem to be getting on with whatever they have to do to survive, with a spirit that is a joy to behold. All this is taking place as, daily, more and more corpses are being found, many must be relatives. Their rebuilding efforts have to be admired; no Planning Department to delay this determination to rebuild their lives. The pictures of the utter mess in the wake of the storm would be more than enough for the average resident in Britain to 'down tools'.

The international rescue effort has to be admired; the American Military is, as usual, the first to be on the scene, organising relief. This is a daunting job, particularly when there are thousands of inhabitants around who are starving to death. Nevertheless, from the evidence, little or no panic was seen to be taking place.

THE PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES, WE SALUTE YOU.
